Circadian leaf movements in biloxi soybeans.

چکیده
Leaf movement in Biloxi soybean has been investigated in some detail by Bunning (1) and Holdsworth (2). The results and the interpretations presented by these investigators differ with regard to the nature of the leaf movement response. Bunning considers the leaf movement to be a circadian manifestation of the physiological clock, while Holdsworth considers it to be essentially a photonastic response. The purpose of this investigation is to determine more precisely the nature of the leaf movement response.

Rhythmic leaf movements in biloxi soybean and their relation to flowering.
The rhythmic leaf movement of Biloxi soybean (Glycine max) and its relationship to the rhythmic flowering response were studied. The movements of fully expanded trifoliate leaves were recorded with kymographs and time lapse photography in growth chambers. A comparison between the leaf movement rhythm and the rhythmic flowering response indicates that a high degree of similarity exists between t...

Bunning suggested that circadian rhythms provide the basis for time measurement in the photoperiodic responses of plants (2). A classic example is found in Glycine max. L. Merr. (Biloxi soybean), whose flowering response occurs in a rhythmical form having peaks of flowering that were approximately 24 hr apart (6). Recentlv Moore et al. (5) reported that Xanthiuim pensylvanicum did not exhibit a...
متن کاملDifferentially phased leaf growth and movements in Arabidopsis depend on coordinated circadian and light regulation.
In contrast to vastly studied hypocotyl growth, little is known about diel regulation of leaf growth and its coordination with movements such as changes in leaf elevation angle (hyponasty). We developed a 3D live-leaf growth analysis system enabling simultaneous monitoring of growth and movements. Leaf growth is maximal several hours after dawn, requires light, and is regulated by daylength, su...
متن کاملSoybean genotypic difference in growth, nutrient accumulation and ultrastructure in response to manganese and iron supply in solution culture.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The objective of this research was to characterize the physiology and cell ultrastructure of two soybean genotypes subjected to nutrient solutions with increasing concentrations of manganese (Mn) at two contrasting iron (Fe) concentrations. Genotypes 'PI227557' and 'Biloxi' were selected based on their distinctly different capacities to accumulate Mn and Fe. * METHODS Brad...
متن کاملDiurnal and circadian regulation of putative potassium channels in a leaf moving organ.
In a search for potassium channels involved in light- and clock-regulated leaf movements, we cloned four putative K channel genes from the leaf-moving organs, pulvini, of the legume Samanea saman. The S. saman SPOCK1 is homologous to KCO1, an Arabidopsis two-pore-domain K channel, the S. saman SPORK1 is similar to SKOR and GORK, Arabidopsis outward-rectifying Shaker-like K channels, and the S. ...
